Family pictures…should they stay or go?

There is an old rule of thumb in real estate that says sellers should remove their family pictures before showing their house. The thought is that by removing the pictures, you are allowing buyers to envision themselves owning the home with their own family.

Personally, I don’t agree with this. I like to see family pictures around, especially happy ones. It makes me feel good about a house. Knowing that a family applied liberal doses of happiness while living in a home just makes the home that much more appealing.

Now, if you have so many pictures on the front of your fridge that you can’t even tell what color the actual fridge is, then yes, by all means, edit your photo display.

So…one Realtor’s opinion…a few casually placed photos of smiling friends and family show a welcoming happy home.
